Handout 6.2 discusses a variety of ways to make inferences about correlational data. In discussing this handout, stress that
  1. Traditionally, the data's scale of measurement determined what statistical tests were deemed appropriate; and

  2. Some believe that using median splits or variations on that technique is too costly in terms of power. The arguments for this position are made in tables 6.6 (p. 171) and 6.7 (p. 172), as well as by
