Pages 86-95 discuss error in measurement. We stress that
The concept map below summarizes first part of this section (pages 86-88).
The concept map below summarizes the next part (pages 88 -91).
The concept map below summarizes the key points of the last part (pages 92 - 95).
Pages 96-107 deal with reliability. The "key points table" (Table 4-2, p. 105) and the flow chart ( Figure 4-2, p. 106) summarize the main points in this section.
Pages 107-113 deal with construct validity. Figure 4-3 (page 114) summarizes the main ideas quite well . (If you want to go into more depth about construct validity, you could explore/assign the classic paper that introduces the term construct validity.)
Pages113-119 provide tips for manipulating variables. As Table 4-3 (p. 117) illustrates, most of the principles behind measuring variables also can be applied to manipulating variables. Table 4-4 (p. 119) summarizes the rest of the chapter, pointing out that there are three basic kinds of manipulations (instructional, environmental, stooges) and there are pros and cons to each type.
