This chapter lends itself to a lecture about ANOVA (see Lecture 10.2, which is adapted from a presentation given by Chris Spatz). We have found that students have a better understanding of ANOVA if you expose them to mock data like that in Handout 10.1 and Handout10.2, have them guess which pair of results is most likely to be significant, and then explain their answers. With some skillful questioning, you can show them that they have some intuitive understanding of the general concepts of between groups variability and within groups variability.
