Key Issues

In this chapter, we address six questions:

  1. What flaws should you look for when reading a research report?

  2. Why is it difficult to conduct a study that has power, internal validity, external validity, and construct validity?

  3. Why might you conduct a direct replication?

  4. How might a systematic replication have more power, construct validity, or external validity than the original study?

  5. What are the benefits of doing a conceptual replication?

  6. What strategies can you use to build on someone else's research?
