Hello, I am a Law Student from Australia and am currently considering psychology as a career path. obviously I would have to start all over again at the undergraduate level.
I was just wondering if you have any words of wisdom for me about schools and finances specifically for people with my background? TC
I'm not sure whether you are a student in Australia or in the US. If the US, you may need to pick up some coursework and experience to develop the requisite background as well as to demonstrate that you have a history
of commitment to psychology. If you are in Australia you'll need to talk
to someone with a better understanding of the Australian training
philosophy.
Although you would want to pick up some coursework, you would not need to "start over" to enter a psychology program here. Some programs even appreciate diversity in backgrounds among their students. Rather than being a liability, your background could be perceived as a strength.
Many doctoral programs provide a meager living wage for their graduate students. Master's programs generally have less money available. Both master's programs and applied programs (clinical) often expect you to go out and work to earn both money and experience. Good luck! JMS
