Observe other people in interpersonal interactions this coming week. Using the microskills of attending as a guideline, what do you observe about these personal contacts? How are people listening? What nonverbal behaviors do you recognize? What do you notice about good listeners as opposed to poor listeners? Generally it is helpful to be concrete in your descriptions and look at how one person's behavior affects the other.

In addition, at least once during the week deliberately engage in non-attending behavior, note the other person's response, then re-engage with good attending skills. What do you observe?
