Research Summary

    How do we help people change? Start by looking at the research on the problem. For example, what is believed to cause and maintain young children's swearing? How should depression be treated? As you begin to answer questions like this, you also begin to identify what you can do to change the problem.

    Your research summary should include:

    1. a concise paragraph on the problem your "client" is facing as well as situations in which it occurs and exceptions to this;

    2. a summary of the research on the problem and on psychosocial techniques used to address it. This summary should cite four references (one can be a textbook). If you only use secondary sources, you can expect to earn no more than a B;

    3. end with a paragraph tying the research to your client.

    Your paper should be no longer than two double-spaced pages and use APA style well. Accuracy in your use of APA Style will have a very positive impact on your paper!

    Samples of excellent papers completed in previous semesters are available on file in my office.
